Keeping Montis with Softies

Has anyone had success keeping Montis with Softies? Specifically my tank is mostly shrooms, Z&Ps, GSP, Frogspawn, Hammers, Rics, etc.

Wondering if my new Monti frags are doomed to a slow demise. I have 250W of T5 / MH combo and plan to keep them in the the top 6-12" of the tank. Was mostly worried about water quality.

OK i am going to jump in

I always have people over to my place who ask about how i get my colors so good. than i start explaining what i do on a regular basis. Also every person has softies in their tank and they complain about the colors they are getting. My rule with SPS, no leathers, toad stools, kenya tree's unless you don't care about color.

LPS, mushrooms and zoa's aren't an issue. just avoid leathers

I subscribed to that train of thought until i seen April 2009 ToTM and several others since then:

thanks for the feedback. After seeing that tank pic I think I'm good to go. Noticed they kept the softies and SPS seperated by a nice gap in the middle. I'm going to do something similar, but do it vertical. I'll keep the softies in the bottom 12" of tank and the montis in the top 12" of tank.

The reason it works with a split like Seapug's did is because the corals cant really grow into each other.

If you put one below (or on top of the other) the bottom ones will grow up towards the light, and smother/bother the corals above them. It will take time, but it will happen.
