koralia on wavemaker

Ok, been gone for a while and gonna "fix" my tank before I down grade. Just wondering if anyone here tried putting a 1/8" plastic tube in the shaft to eliminate the racking noise when hook up to a wavemaker. How well does it work?

Thanks!

Haven't tried that. Thought about it but couldn't decide on the right material. I've found that after a few days of buildup on the shaft, the noise and propeller skitter decreases.

Thanks Rogger! How's your family? That includes your wife and kids, too. hehe. :D jk

I had been busy making the best out of life. Going to do tile soon and need to move the tank. Since I am planning on getting a house next yr and had most of my corals died while I was away, I decided to put everything in a 50 gal for now and get a 120 then. I am already planning how to set it up. Gonna have lot questions for you soon. :) Thanks again!

Pedromatic, nice! I guess it's on my shopping list then. Either that or just wait and do closed loop or wavebox...hmm decisions decisions. :)

Thanks!

i've been researching on building a wavebox...I'll probably be building one in the next couple weeks. Hopefully it works out well for me! I'll probably start a thread on it. watch for it

haha thanks rogger...I'll work on it after I get a picture of the fish I just bought today. P.S. I went back in and bought it!

OK, guys, break it up. :)
I run a Wavemaster Pro with several Koralias on my tanks. It works for me and it's an inexpensive alternative (cause I'm cheap) to Tunze or wavebox. Waveboxes are great, but I think I would get dizzy looking at everything go back and forth, back and forth...

The Wavemaster Pro provides several different patterns plus a calmer pattern for night time. It also has a feeding mode, you hit a button and it shuts off all the Ks for 10 min, so the food doesn't blow all over the place. The advantage over a closed loop is less power consumption and the ability to move the powerheads around according to your setup. As you change your aquascaping you can create dead spots, so you move the Ks around to eliminate those. Works for me.

Pedro...How are the Koralias after an additional 6 weeks have passed? Any problems with them restarting? Do they rattle when they start?

I found a 4 month old wavemaster pro I can pick up for 85 shipped but don't want to do it if the koralias won't work on it.

When new the Ks rattle a bit when starting up as the propeller hops on the shaft. After a few days, the shaft gets slimy and it quiets down. No issues with Ks and Wavemaster. IMO it's a great way to get plenty of random flow for relatively little money and very little power consumption. I love the Wavemaster Pro, the only thing is the case is not waterproof. Either put it somewhere where it can't get wet, or put some plastic around it to keep it dry.
