Korallin Biodenitrator Who use them

Just got the bioDenitrator from Korallin. I have heard so many good thing about their Ca reactor but not yet find any thread about the Denitrator. I guess, i will be the one who will open a can of worms.

The unit itself look exactly like the Ca Reactor C3002 Med size, even the recirculation pump (eheim 1048). It came with Suprapure sulphur and Coral_skeleton media.

My tank doesn't have much Nitrate but i would like to maintain the NO3 level at 0 all time.

Any input or tip on how to properly dial this fine piece of equipment please let me know. Much appreciated.

Steve

I have had one for about 8 months now. I am able to run it at a slow stream and still produce 0 nitrates. I have the larger of the two models.

It does produce effluent that has a lower pH so keep an eye on it. I replace the calcium media every 4 months...I am using ARM media.

A few months after I set it up, it was clogging with detritus and had to be cleaned, taking another 4 weeks to repopulate the bacteria. I am now filtering the water into it.

I discharge the effluent through a Phos reactor filled with charcoal to avoid occasional sulfer smells as I got it calibrated.

It is keeping my 200 gal reef tank ay 0 nitrates...I am very pleased with it.

Thanks for the head up.

Im runing denitrator for about 2wks now(I think), I do see improvement on NO3. output drop about 1 per second and it need time to cycle.

After 24hrs of running at 2 drops/sec (per the instruction manual) everything looking good. Not the corals, im talking about leakage and the drip still at the same rate :). My Hanna NO3 color meter will arrive this afternoon (it is time to face the truth :) )

Steve aren't you running zeo? Why the need for a denitrator?

Good question, hehehehe. I feel very stupid right now :). Most of the BB tank have issue with nitrate even with Zeo method. I thought i may have high level of nitrate so i bought the Biodenitrator and the Hanna nitrate color meter. The Hanna arrived today so i ran a test right away. Guess what? 0.00 nitrate :). I will keep the denitrater running to maintain 0.00 nitrate at all time :).

Hey guys! My tank seems to always hover around the 2.5 - 5 ppm NO3 range so i have been giving a denitrator some though. Would you recommend one for me, or is it only effective when levels are higher?

It is depend, some people have no problem with higher NO3 and some would like to keep it at Zero. For me, i prefer Zero. Therefore i bough the reactor and the color meter from Hanna.

I just bought this unit for my tank. It was on back order at Marine Depot. They said they have sold a lot of these units and were out when I ordered it. Just got it after waiting about 2 weeks.

i read an article that alot of commercial aquariums use them and have great results with them, so i bought the korallin unit from marine depot and its been running a little under a month and my nitrates have already dropped from around 80 to 15 which is pretty good considering the instructions say it takes about a month for the unit to cycle, the unit is easy to set up and once you get it dialed in its set and forget.
i built one before from the diy forum on about.com and the drip rate had to be real slow or it would register nitrites on effluent, it was so slow that nitrates never did drop, this unit is so much better and my corals look so much happier, unit is a little pricey but what isn't in this hobby, and you can turn it into a calcium reactor pretty easily once you get nitrates under control.

haha I started a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Cool. I am glad to see other people think about it like I am.

Even though I have about 1 ppm, I still am thinking about one.
