Hi. I would like to begin doing some basic work with acrylic. I am interested in bending, piecing together, etc. I need some real basic pointers, of course for marine safe stuff.
Does ayone have any good web sites they can recommend?
Alot of plastic places on the net have articles about working with acrylic. There's a guy here called acrylicman who is very helpful as well as folks who have experiance and can help you avoid porblems they've had. The one pearl I have is old wisdom, "the right tool for the right job" If your having problems with something, then there's probably a tool available that makes it easier. Before you ask how to cut this or that, go ahead a get yourself a router table so your ready for the answer.
I've found a very effective technique for plastic parts is to make templates out of MDF and then cutting the plastic with a template bit.
This is probably the best bit of advice you'll get regarding working with acrylic. I tried all kinds of techniques and none gave me even close to the results I wanted. I got a router table, and WOW! Pretty darn close to pro-quality results first time through.
