I am having the same issues with what looks to be the exact same type of leather. So I will be following this thread. I was having an algae issue with a thick matting of algae covereing a good percentage of my rock. That is when I first started noticing the deterioriation in mine. I have been increasing my water changes and the algae is starting to go away and I think that it is helping the coral prob too. I will take a better look tomorrow.
What are your water parameters ? Maybe we can compare and get a better idea of what is causing the issue.
When I have time I will try to test my water and post the parameters. Probably won't be till saturday though.
I have not tested yet but last time I did My alk and pH was low just Like yours!
"I think we solved the problem Houston"
I don't think cutting off the bad area will resolve the problem unless it is some sort of infection or disease. I think we need to work on our ph and alk.
I believe it is some kind of bacteria infection. I had one a long time ago and it did the same thing. I read somewhere it was bacteria, and yes if you cut that portion out it should be ok. A little fresh carbon wouldn't hurt.
I had a similar problem and after a few months I realized that I had a leather eating nudibranch eating my leather from the bottom up.it took that long for it to get big enough for me to see it coming out at night ,finally removed it and I'd it.it hitched a ride from the oceans it only eats that kind of leather.look close you may find one like I did
