What kind of mantis is that? If I were to guess it looks like a Gonodactylus smithii. I'll take a pic of mine when the lights come on at noon PT.

beats me, sorry. Stomper was a hitchhiker on some Florida Live Rock. He's had a nano all to himself for a couple of years now.

Stomper is about 3". It takes him(her?) about two days to open a clam but then he gorges for a couple of days.

You are brave. Looks like you are grabing it. Mine tries to attack my fingers sometimes.

I was feeding him hald a shrimp. By hand.


He is regrowing his clubs so he can't hit me. So I am trying to make him tame while I can. He is also living with another small mantis, 2 urchins, 3 fish, serpentstar and a bunch of corals. I am going to add more snails soon. So far he has not bothered them.

I have a feeling that once he, (actually it looks like a she) regrows those clubs he will start killing the fish and inverts in the tank. Mine is ruthless. The only snails that survive are a few turbo snails whose shell are too thick and large for the mantis to break through, although it doesn't stop it from trying. Every night I hear the beatings. I put them in there for her to eat so hopefully she eventually gets through.
