LFS prices

Out of curiosity, what are LFS charging for frags ... say ORA. I try and spend money locally if possible, and support the LFS. ORA frags were $80 minimum. Pink birdsnest was $100. Prices were 5-6 times what you would find ordering from an online vendor or a fellow RC member, needless to say there was no way I could justify it. I would really like to spend money locally, but at those prices I just can not do it.

65-85 for the most recent and as low as 24 for ones that have been out for a while. i just got a ora verde for 24 bucks at the hidden reef a couple months ago.

I just picked up a Red Planet at my store for $59 a few weeks back.

No ... these were 1" frags of run of the mill ORA stuff. I don't want to irritate them by haggling ... but that mark up is a bit excessive. People must buy them I guess.

That's about right for me. My LFS will sell their ORA stuff for 50-90 bucks. But they also have plenty of other frags that they sell for 15-20. And they usually take pieces of ORA frags (stuff that gets broken off during shipping or whatever) and remount them, and then sell them for 15-20 bucks as well. They're usually pretty small, but it's a cool deal. Got a Joe frag on sale for $10.

find a local reef club and buy frags grom people there. your better off.

I also try to support LFS but if they are outrageously overpriced, I begin to think they are taking advantage of me. I have limits on my tolerance to their prices. I will pass and come back in 6 months, maybe the frags have become a mini-colony by then.

For an ORA piece on their plug that's usually bigger than an 1" I don't mind paying $40-$70 depending on what it is. But if it's a small frag off of a colony that's not encrusted that's too much for me.
