Life of Halides

I've had a pair of 175w 14k MH bulbs for about 3 years now 6hrs/day) and they are still running bright as ever. Does the ideal spectrum eventually die? Are the bulbs still providing enough of the "right" light to produce photosynthetic activity for new corals? This tank has been sitting uncared for some time, and I am just now getting it back in order and I am wondering if I should replace the bulbs even though they seem ok.

Bulbs usually last about 6 months to a year. I'd replace them, either way, to be on the safe side.
