Lighting Distance From Water Surface

For an 18" tall tank w/ 2x 175w 14k MH - what is the recommended distance that the lights sit from the water surface?

I woul keep them at around 6"

if the bulbs are exposed directly to the water I'd say atleast 12" so the water doesnt splash on them. Thats about where mine are at.
