lighting question mh 250 20v14

I have 2 250 se mh now using 14,000 k hamiltons with shield distance to water 2.5 inches but going to look at xm20k tonight running icecap ballsts

Do you think that either of these will support most clams in my 24 inch high tank?

Will the 20k be enough intensity at all - do I need to stick to lower light needing clams with 20k.

Also I run my tunze streams at intervals 30-100% which causes my hammer at the bottom to do the wave a bit and short tentacle plates tentacles to move around a good bit - IS THIS a problem for all clams

Do some clams fair better with the light AND flow I mention?

thanks for any advice

My clams (crocea & maxima) have been doing great under a 14K in an 18" deep tank.
With your glass that low be sure to keep it clean or it will cut your light output.

The 20K would be iffy IMO, they don't put much PAR...though amazingly, Sanjays site says that a 20K radium puts out about the same amount as your 14K Hamiltons...so if your clams are doing fine now they will probably be alright, though my Phoenix puts out about 20% more PAR than your Hamiltons.

If it were me I would feel iffy about a SE 250 20K...just IMO..though a 250 SE 20K puts out about the same PAR as a 150 DE 10K..which many may consider to be alright.

They don't mind a little flow as long as the mantle isn't flapping around a lot...keep in mind that they may turn into the flow.

Cheers.

my frogspawn touches my crocea regularly with no adverse affects. i know others will disagree. i asked this question in lps forum and half said move them and half said that theirs touched. coral and clam seemed ok in my tank and still do months later.
