Hey everyone.. Well I'm a lil bummed. I ordered a couple of peacock mantises from fishsupply.com.,, Well they were out so finally after 3 weeks or so they got them in.. So I replaced my order. Well they called me and said that all they had were females and they were only about 3" insted of the 3.5-5" per their website.. I said Np they will grow.. She said that they werent the same color as the website.. The picture show bright green shrimp.. Well my other mantis wasnt really bright either. I said NP..

Well this is what I got

I didnt' know males a females look this different.. I thought it was hard to tell them apart?

The top animal is a Gonodactylus chiragra female, a hardy intertidal species that grows to about 3.75". They actually do better than O. scyllarus in captivity and for the same size, have a stronger strike.

Thanx for the ID I've been looking at all the pictures I could find.. I knew it wasn't a peacock just didn't know what it was..O well. I emailed fishsupply to see if they could get me what I ordered.

Anyone know of any other sites that Sell Mantis shrimp? Or even local shops that would ship to Alabama

I may be able to help! I will check a few stores around here that normally have Peacocks 3"-5"!!
Keep in touch with me by PMing me!

G. Chiraga is a great Mantis. I have one (a female named Freya), and she is adventurous, builds a lot and whacks a rock crab like nobodies business. Sure, she isn't as 'pretty' as an O. Scyllarus (Peacock) , if you are looking for brilliant coloration (An O Scyllarus doesn't hold a candle to my G. Platysoma for that,however...).

You should get what you pay for, however.

Hope that you enjoy the G. Chiraga, should you wish to keep her. Mine is a great little lady.

Thanx for the comments guys..

DaddyJax I might just take you up on your offer..

Uriel, Don't get me wrong I like any mantis. I've also got a tank setup for a N. Wenn that I've had for over a year. I have a mantis tank at my office and two at my house.. But I ordered a peacock for my 29 gallon tank at my home cause the peacock that was in there died.. I was looking to replace him. So I was kinda of set on a peacock for that tank..

I'll keep the G. Chiraga but i'm still bumbed out that I ordered a peacock and didn't get what I ordered... Fishsupply.com never got back to my email....so no more orders to them I guess.

LOL that second one is a picture Of Thor.. He died due to what I think was old age :( I was trying to get a new since thors tank is all empty now.. He had it all to his self

(Clears throat in a academic manner...)

'G. chiraga is found throughout...er, damn.'

(Points at Dr. Roy's post) 'What he said.'

My G. chiraga is found in the warm waters of San Francisco, not those silly cold waters around the City, but the waters in the Western Addition of 'The City', specifically about a foot from the waters where my G. platysoma is found...ahem.Not too far from the waters where my G. viridis,G. ternatensis,N. wenneran and O. scyllarus are found...
Rumour has it that P. cilata might be found nearby soon as well...
