Has anyone used live brine for feeding? I was just wondering what kind of experiences you guys may have had with them. I have some hatched and need some feeding advice. Thanks
fish love them however, once the shrimp is more than 24 hrs old and loses its yoke sack they have no nutritional valve to the fish. its like giving them candy. i use to feed the tank some about once a week. i have a Stripped Fang Blenny and he wasnt really eating anything frozen or flakes. so i bought some live from the LFS. he would go crazy for them. then i bred some (much cheaper that way). now i have tons of live Mysis Shrimp in the tank and he is now eating frozen and flake foods as well.
Live brine shrimp have plenty of nutrients.
When in the nauplii stage the egg sack provides high huffa concentration, with low protein levels.
As adult brine shrimp, the protein level is in the area of 60% but the huffa content is low.
To maximize the benifits of using live adult brine shrimp, they should be gut loaded with a Selco type product for a couple of hours before feeding them to your fish.
If you are raising them yourself and feeding them Tahitian Blend, then you don't need to gut load them with Selco.
Brine shrimp, both as nauplii and as juvenile/adults, are used extensively in the marine mariculture industry as an important part of the feeding regiem, even though there are cheaper alternatives.
The cheaper alternatives don't produce results like the brine shrimp though.
