Live Rock...

I was happy with Gulf-View (now floridaliverock.com). In September 2003, I ordered 70 lbs of their coralline rock. If you call them, you speak directly with Dale (the owner/diver) who is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Initially I thought I got ripped off because my package was nowhere near 70 lbs. Turns out my shipment was divided into 2 boxes, but I only received one. Dale tracked it and found that the other box was wet, so DHL kept it because they didn't know what was wrong. You would think the "Tropical Fish" label might be a clue, but no. Anyway, Dale shipped me another box at no charge. Meanwhile, the (now formerly) wet box arrived a few days later.

As for the rocks, they were beautiful. Full of pink, purple, red, and orange growth. Over time, I would find lots of hitchhikers too: assorted snails, longspine urchin, feather duster, emerald crab, sponges, etc.

BTW, that formerly wet box sat unopened in my garage for a few months. No way I was going to put it into my tank after a week on the road, so I just left it in the garage. After about 5 months, I opened the box. The rocks still looked great, and it didn't stink like I thought it would. I mixed up some water and threw them in a bucket with a powerhead. After about 2 weeks and a few water changes, tests showed no ammonia so into the tank they went. It was like getting 35 lbs of free rocks.
