I see stores sell live sand from a bin, now how is that still live sand, would all the stuff in the sand have died off because it is dry?

the dry sand in the bins is not live sand. it can become live sand by introducing a cup or 2 from a established sand bed or by placing live rock into the system.
where have you seen dry sand in bins sold as live sand?

shawn!~)

Those are not live sand, the live sand sell in a well packed bag with some water in it.

If you're on a budget those are good to start out with and buy some live sand to seed your dead sand and eventually all the dead sand will become live.

thats what i thought, ive seen some local shops here and in roseville that say live sand , unless it was just a bin to show the price.

So Anyone know where i could sell my crushed coral to recoup some of my loss costs?

I was gonna edit but icant now, But Is there anyone here who has any sand they like to sell?

I'll bring a scoop to the meeting. It doesn't take a lot to seed the system, especially since you have live rock in there. That contains all kinds of bacteria and critters down in the cracks. If you are not able to make it to meetings, we often meet up at O St on weekends or after work. That's what we were doing this week when we met you, meeting up with another reefer.

OH hi, I was wondering when I might see ya on here, I will try and make it to the meeting i should be there by 745 or so. Hope i dont miss too much.

Thanks in advance, thats really nice of you.

as for the coral gravel, I checked out that website. I dont even know where to look. LOL so much stuff on there kinda over whelming.

IME just dropping the sand in one spot will work just fine, before you know it it will all spread, the organisms will also spread from the liverock on to your sand.
