Liverock In HOB Refugium?

Putting the final touches on a 29 gallon before ordering the Package. Would it be a good thing to just add a few more pounds of liverock and sand for the refugium, or should a different substrate be used?

Yes, it is a good thing to have some live sand and rock in a refugium.

I have a CPR Aquafuge, with about 1" of LS and some pieces of LR rubble at the bottom, growing macroalgae out the wazoo.

Depending on the size of your HOB, I'm not sure that I would bother ordering extra LS & LR; just grab some from the main tank (which is what I did).

I bought the large 25", I think it holds about 5 gallons.

Is there any reason I couldn't put the heater vertically in the outlet end, other than the fact if the pump quit, the tank would cool down? But, that would be the same situation if a sump's return pump quit wouldn't it?

Tony,

Yes, the large AF holds about 5g (according to CPR).

I don't see any reason not to put your heater in the AF. If you were to do it, I'd put it in the middle or the entrance section. The outlet end runs water lower than the entrance or middle. You'll see when you set it up.

Hy...where would you recommend I put the sensor for the heater if I put it in the refugium, in the fuge or in the main tank?

Relatively near the heater, so in the HOB too. As long as you have reasonably good circulation, you shouldn't see temperature differences between main tank & HOB.
