Lobophyllia recovery

Looking for a small Brain coral for my nano. Local LFS had a
Lobophyllia that was almost figure 8 shaped. One end was dead and app. 1/4 of the other side had receded. As is for $10.00.
The one side has come back. the dead side I have pushed down in the sand so it is not noticeable. Can I trim most of it off without affecting the live part?

The coral is in my tank now. I want to know if the dead side can be trimmed off.

With a lobo, I wouldnt suggest trying to trim it, but the dead area should have tissue grow back over in, in the right conditions and with time in your tank.
