Well to start I bought a aquaculture coral about a month ago, it was alittle bleached but no big deal. Well it started go down hill about a week after I got it, just figured it was one of those deals.
Well tonight I took the remains and the plug out of the tank and this is what I saw on the bottom of the plug. I dont really know if this is the norm for AC coral or if it even made a difference. What do you think.

You can see the two lines of rust going across the plug, yes it is metal in it. Any ideas, do they come like this?

interesting... i thought it was cement... maybe try cutting off the acros when you get some AC ones although i've had success with those plugs that they come on..

I have a few aquacultured pieces with those marks on the bottom as well. It is fairly common with the AC stuff coming in now. Lol, that and zip ties (or rope) sticking out of the rock.

YES!!! Rusty mag drive, titanium heaters, and other pumps (dont want to name names) have been reported to cause death to your corals.
You should test your water for copper.

but rust in itself isn't bad, and the phosphate binders are basically expensive rust. copper is bad, but that doesnt' look like copper.

Grannular ferric oxide, Iron for Macro(phosban,rowa).........Rust is good, its the unknown stuff that is along side it that might cause problems. Could be iron rods that they set the corals on so they don't move around. Should be safe.

FWIW, titanium doesn't rust...if in fact your heater is titanium.
It only corrodes when exposed to a strong acid...which is unlikely in your tank.
