Some TBS rock...

and this... :(

Apparently, from what I've heard from researching TBS & my own experience with it, is the aptasia from the FL area is different. Richard, from TBS, calls it curly cue. It doesn't seem to spread like other types. I have had 2 on my rock from TBS. One of them disappeared on it's own and the other has stayed confined to one rock and hasn't produced any "new friends".

Hope you don't have any trouble with it!

I've seen 2 of them on this current batch of rock... I took care of one of them (I think)... I don't know if I want to keep the other or not. I'd hate to loose other corals or fish because I kept a free aiptasia.

I've got a couple of these on a piece of (dying) sponge we got from a store in Gainesville. The pictures and examples I've seen of Aiptasia don't look like this ... I was harboring some mild hope that maybe it's just some other variety of anemone that isn't going to take over my tank. What's the consensus here? Is it, or isn't it??? I've got a picture of mine in my Gallery.

I have a Curly Q looks exactly like that. Ive had mine for about 9-10months, it came on some lr the size of a dime. It has not reproduced and now is the size of a softball fully expanded. IT has not reproduced at all, I kinda like it, but it takes up space and isn't that eye catching so i am going to throw it.

I have anemones exactly like that. They went crazy for a little while but I got rid of some of them and haven't seem any new ones for a few months now. I got them on a rock that originally had sponge on it.

Ignorance here but what is Kalk paste? I've heard of using Joe's Juice for getting rid of them, but not Kalk paste.

A paste or slurry made of Kalk powder (pickling lime). Needs a methode of pinpoint delivery (like a syringe) as it has an extremely high pH and will burn anything it comes in contact with in your aquarium. The small amount used to kill aptasia will eventually diffuse just adding more Ca+ to your aquarium water.
By the way, the anemone in the photo isn't aggressive or particularly prolific. I had a few in my TBS rock also and they disappeared on their own over a couple months.

I used Kalk paste to kill most of the big ones and got a peppermint shrimp for the small ones.

Within the matter of a week or so she has taken care of all the Aip that I've seen!

Be careful with the paste though! I squirted a bit too much out once and got on another piece of coral killed about 1/4 of it instantly and I squirted it off the rest and it came back within the next day.
