Rox 8 is the best carbon but very pricey. Lignite type carbon is very good and used in a number of commercial brands. I get mine in bulk from Bulk Reeef Supply..I don't know which ones but you can research any you have in mind. Sea Chem's matrix gets great reviews and is a nice easy to use spherical shape but it is very pricey.
A search under granulated activated carbon on this forum will get you quite a bit of information.
