I think I'm about ready to try this coral thing. I've always liked the look of the sun coral, and think I want to start with that one. Anybody have a frag to sell?

Shawn,
i hope you realize that the SUN coral needs to be MANUALY fed everyday or it will eventually die.....my buddy has one for about a year now.....he feeds it every day with a srying of brine shrimp.

Rich K.

Ps ive got a good sized keya tree or even a hammer coral, something easy if youd like.....?

Shawn, Rich is right, not a good coral to start with. I feed mine every day, the same with my dendros. They don't open up much during the day, stay open all night.

If you do decide to go with one and can make it to Chicago, Downtown pets has an awesome sun coral they just got in. It's nice and big too.

ok here is the thing. We have a hawaiian spotted puffer that my wife just had to have. That puffer is supposed to be to most coral tollerent, but you never know until you try. I was thinking that if the coral only opened at night that the puffer would be sleeping, which looks really cool by the way, and they could get allong and never even know it.
I knew that I would have to feed it an night and I have moonlights so that is not that big of a deal.
I really don't want anything expensive because it might not get allong with the current tank mates. And I only have 4x48" VHO's for now so the really cool stuff is out of the question.

Rich: I really like both of those corals. Maybe we can work something out. If the puffer won't play nice i can maybe bring 'em back to you.

Shawn,
your more than welcom to the corals....i'll set you up cheap...say $20 and you can have them both....keyna is good sized and the hammer will be a smaller piece.

As for the puffer.....he wont work in my tank.....he'll eat all my pretty shrimp in a second....great fish none the less.

FWIW, i had a puffer in my 90g tank that had LOTS of softies, a RBTA and LPS's and had no problems with him.
Now for the snails and crabs...well they dont have a chance with a puffer.
LMK

Cheers,
Rich

My puffer doesn't evey look twice at my shrimp, and can't seem to harm the hermits. As for the snails if they fall off they are dinner before they can right themselves.
Oh I forgot I also have a choc chip star. I'm not to sure on him and corals. Have to leave for work now, I'll look him up later.

OK I think I am reef safe now. Traded the puffer and the choc chip star to the LFS for a six line wrase.

So now I have:
Six line wrase
Sailfin tang
2 scotter blennies
pajama cardinal
cleaner shrimp
coral banded shrimp
Algee blennie
Red mandarin
firefish
blue leg hermits
snails

I'm also running a Icecap 660 with 4x48" NO bulbs, until I can afford some actual VHO bulbs.

So you tell me am I ready?:D

Just got the manderin, store owner told me it was eating mysis. I thought yea right, but I bought mysis from her and he does eat it. SCORE!

The scooters were a gift from my tanksitter that were in my tank after a week on vacation. I panicked, because I thought they only ate pods like the manderin, ran to exotic equatics and he told me they will eat brine, and they do. Had them since first week of june.

I'm trying to ween them onto the mysis now. One eats it the other does sometimes and doesn't others.

A fuge is in the planning stages now and that I can seed with tigger pods I found at aquascapes.

Fuppets, Did you see that Exotic Aquatics had 4 sun corals in. Well I should say 3 because I took one home Sat. It is awsome let me tell you. Well worth the extra maintanance.

No I missed them. The wife practally drags me through that section of the store because I spend so much time there and she doesn't see anything moving. She just don't get it.:D
How much were they? I won't be able to get in there until wed, but I'll be there waiting for the door to open.

The first time I posted this someone pm'ed me offering me a frag. Now that I am ready for it I can't seem to find it. I must have erased it.
