I'm sorry if this is a repeated topic.
One of my friends said his clams died when the alk got to low.
I found out the same.
If this is a common thought could you point me to the thread?
Thanks in advance.
CA and ALK should never be allowed to go low when clams are present. I personally never let mine get below 10dkh (it's usually 11.5) A clam in an unbalanced tank will sometimes (if not always) die. SG, Temp, CA, ALK, etc. must always be stable.
Glad you started this thread- below 10dkh my clams do not look good or SPS either- cal always 450-500. Another bit- my clams seem to like an do and turn themselves toward 5500k venture bulbs( althought a little yellow to me) -vs- 10kaqualine ( the center clam died quickly - almost as yellew) or 20k xm bulbs. I have 3 250w bulbs, always 20k on outsides - center bulb has been changing, trying a 14k asap being mailed, 13k PFO bulb next.
New SPS's and clam added friday , 9.3dkh on last test Sun.- reg. amount of Alk added, 9.0 after reading last entry about 7pm est. "O-no" , added more alk. 1hr later- alot of the bleaching on the new corals( I thought because of shipping) is gone. polip extention on all corals better. Clams look better. Guess this means more tests after adding corals/ clams is a +!
