Lowes "Family Trees"...

Just want to get everyone thoughts on what lowes home improvement is doing this year. I guess to be more politically correct they no longer call them christmas trees. They are family trees. I guess for anyone that doesn't celebrate Christmas. but my thoughts are who buys a tree that isn't celebrating Christmas?
Any thoughts?

Well I am Jewish and my wife is Catholic...so the idea of a Family Tree isn't a bad one since our kids will learn both religions.

ok see that is cool. I am not sure of what religions use Christmas Trees. But I would have assummed anyone that celebrates Christmas decorates a tree. Ok keep the thoughts coming.

Off topic and don't agree with this being posted in that it will just cause problems.

This a wonderful forum so far, free of politics and religion, there's hundreds of forums to get feedback on those subjects. I say lets stay on the beauty of corals and fish :D

yes and this is how I hoped it would be. Just get some insight as to who uses trees and how lowes decision effects anything if at all. Doesn't bother me. Just heard on the radio. This is like a large family of friends. Seems like we should be mature enough to share with eachother. shouldn't be any debates. I myself just don't really know who all buys trees. I haven't been able to have one in since I got my tank. dont have the room for both. Thanks for the input guys.

Christmas Tree, Channukah Bush, Festivus plant, whatever. They smell good, and presents come from under them. What's not to love?

yeah so i wonder when and where it ever came to be known as a christmas tree, channukah bush, festivus plant, etc. who decided that these evergreens should be the official tree? Why not a mulberry tree? and did other religions adopt this same tree for their holiday? hmmm as I sit and ponder these thoughts. It is interesting.

The Christmas tree is a Pagan tradition that celebrated the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year). On this holiday they would decorate a tree and place presents of fruit and vegetables to symbolize the coming spring.

The christens stole this holiday like every other in an effort to convert people to there religion. It went like this:

Convert or die (the inquizition, the holy wars...) No you want to celebrate the winter solstice...Funny thing we have a holiday then too where we also decorate a tree and get presents...It was the birth of JC. PPPpppsssttt He was really born in June. Ssshhhhh not any more its 12/25 now baby.

Did you know he wasnet even born in the year 0000. Nope it was 4 BC. JC was before before himself.

I love history.

I agree...

those of us that were interested in the history of the christmas tree are actully learning something here. If you disagree you don't have to read. There are no rules being broken here. Simply an off topic thread which most everyone is playing nice and sharing what they know. It is interesting. Thanks guys for your insight.

I think that if Loews calls them "Family Trees" I will go elsewhere to spend my Christmas money -- to a place where they call them Christmas Trees. You would not buy a Menorah and call it a 9 candle non Christian holiday candlestick. I think we should call things what they are. Political correctness is for whimps that can't handle the real world. Tolerance means accepting other people's beliefs not making them conform to yours.

"Yea....not gonna happen here.
We've got a long standing policy of no politics or religion.

Thread closed.

That is what makes this country great. Capitalism - The bower of the buck.
