Magnasol a good Magnesium supp?

At work we use a product called Magnasol in the fryers. We add it while we filter the soy oil to make it last longer.

It's made of magnesium silicate. From what I understand silica causes algae to grow.

Would I be able to use the magnesium silicate as a magnesium supplement or would the silicate it contains be detrimental to my tank.

NO!!!!!!!

Definitely not a good way to go.

You'd push silicate way, way way super high using magnesium silicate. That would cause potential diatom and excessive alkalinity problems.
