Hey guys,

I've been running my 40g for a 3-4 months now and was wondering how often I should do pump maintenance. I was also thinking that the skimmer might need to be cleaned as well.

How often are you cleaning your pumps and equipment?

I'd clean pumps (impellers, etc) every 6-8 months. It all depends on your calcium levels in your water. Ususaly that is the cause of most pump seizures.

What do you mean clean skimmer? the collection cup or the entire thing?

Well, I haven't been dosing calcium, so I guess I could clean it in 3 months or so.

My skimmer is a needle wheel, so I was thinking of cleaning the entire thing.
