make-up water slime

I use a large plastic trashcan to prepare make-up water. I am having slime build up on the power cords of the heater and power head circulating the water. Does anyone know what this stuff is?? Organic?? The water is seemingly clean but it must be coming from somewhere.

Make sure the garbage can is appropriate for use and not leeching chemicals into the water. Best bet is to use a rubbermaid product or plastic container with food storage grade plastic.

Are you using RODI water and keeping the can covered? IF not you're probably just seeing a little algae build up.

ya , I noticed that on my heater cord, slippery when wet I think its pretty much normal, but we will hear from some of the ol sallty dogs im sure

I'm not an ol salty dog but I believe that the slime on the cords is not harmful.
