cheap temporary makeshift fuge??

is it possible to put a ball of caulerpa in the return section of the bakpak skimmer...or even in the preskim box so it gets some light...and get some of the effect of having a fuge?

I don't see why not, just keep in mind that caulerpa left in cramped spaces is prone to going sexual (i.e. prone to having deletereous effects on your tank). The more space you give the caulerpa or chaeto to grow, the faster it will do so. I keep a ball of chaeto in my tank up near the light, at least for now while the tank's not heavily stocked.

I agree, if the culerpa goes sexual you can have big problems, I would go with Chaeto if you can, you wont have a problem with that.
