Can you keep a green Mandarin in a BB tank? I have one in a tank w/ 1.5" sand bed now--doing well for 1.5 years---I'd like to go BB.
TIA, Rodney

Main concern is plenty of pods.
I've heard that's a little tougher in a BB.
If you have a fuge w/ lots of macro, lots of LR, and LR ruble "pod piles" you may be able to, but I'd keep close eye on pod population and how fat your mandarin is.
My guess is if you've had him 1.5 years he's eating prep food, so you may be OK.
Might need to spot feed.

Thanks davocean--I do have the things that you meantioned--including a Mandarin that will eat frozen brine shrimp. I am just wondering how many people w/ BB also have Mandarins?

don't rely on frozen food that is a hit or miss. a most of the time is a miss.

It is possible to keep it an a BB tank, but you need to take some extra step to keep the pod population up. Like a bigger fueg with a lot of macro. pod piles in the tank and in the fuge

Ho wlong have you had the Mandarin
IS frozen food the majority of its supply right now?

If the Mandarin will readily eat frozen food I don't see a problem.
As long as you can feed it enough on a reg basis

Funny thing is after I went BB, I have more pods now then I ever did in a tank with a sand bed. I have kept a mandarin fat and happy for 3 years now.

And I do not have any 'pod piles' or a fuge. They are just in the display, on the soap dish/frag trays and live rock, you can see them all over if you look hard enough.
