A few months ago I started to plan a system based on a mangal type environment. Here is a little rundown on my proposed setup: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=210265
However, that's not going to work out any time soon, but the other day I had a brainstorm on something else I could try...but much simpler in form. I've got a rigid whiskey barrel liner that's around 25 gal. or so in volume. I am thinking of putting that next to my low-set dining room window, filling it with SW and sand, etc. This way I wouldn't have to worry about the roots busting any tank seams and they can grow where they want to. I'll add plenty of fauna, and a small heater and pump to keep water going...maybe a small cardinal fish or few down the road. I'll probably add a little AZoo clip-on 13W lamp just to shine a little more light into the pool for viewing. That's it--a little mangrove pool.
I've used this tub as a porch pond before and all is well. I don't see any reason why the plastic would leach anything through the contact of SW over FW, do you?
The primary reason I am posting this is to find someone who has an extra mangrove or two that they wouldn't mind getting rid of (or selling for a minimal amount). I have no need of a bunch of them, so the Ebay guy in HI is out of the question, and I don't really want to pay the overpriced amounts that many online vendors charge. I was hoping that someone here has 1-2 extra that they wouldn't mind getting rid of. Let me know, and we can work out shipping, etc.
THANKS!
