Mantis feeding, when to stop

I feed my mantis snails, I want to feed him silverslides. When i feed my eel silverslides i stop when he gets fat how do i know when my mantis is full? will he just stop eating? and i dont want to take the silverslides out that he didint eat.

Most smashing stomatopods will through out of their burrow any food not eaten. Unless you have a healthy group of scavengers, you probable would want to remove it. Unfortunately, Odontodactylus scyllarus will sometimes bury uneaten food - or at least hold on to it for a long time. I've lost quite a few over the years in small tanks when their hidden, uneaten food rotted. We typically only give the stomatopods a piece of food no bigger in diameter than about a third the length of their carapace. That much food a day is more than enough to keep them growing. Usually, if an animal is nearing a molt and not going to eat, it will reject food that it has taken within a minute or two. At that point, we remove it.

The carapace is the shield on the top the thorax. It covers the area from just behind the eyes back to where the walking legs start.

That is probably about the limit, but as long as you are careful to monitor for uneaten pieces, should be no problem.

The only study that I know of that has been done on how much stomatopods eat in the field was one that we did in Panama looking at Neogonodactylids.
They were taking 4-5 small snails a day. These animals were 4 cm and the snails were 4-7mm.
