Mantis Finally made his first kill!

Well I got a mantis a few weeks back, and within a few days I plopped a good size (shell is about the size of a quarter) hermit crab sold to me as a blue legged, but it's not, the legs are white, and it has one claw larger than the other...) anyways they never scuffled... so I put in another, about the size of a dime size shell, didn't do anything, and after numerous snails, nothing seemed to have been killed, though I kept feeding it krill (freeze dried / brine shrimp (live)) but I ran out of brine shrimp, and haven't fed him for 2-3 days now.

So today I wanted to swap in another LR out of the tank, and put it in my main tank, so I found a small hermit on rock, so I dropped it right in front of the mantis lair. :evil grin:

I'm filling the water up in my main, did a 15% water change, and I hear a tapping... WHOA I look at him, he's tossing the small hermit crab around.

He'd hit it, it'd roll up then roll back down into his lair, and he's getting ****ed, so finally after about 3-4 minutes he gets a new idea... He picks the hermit up and puts it against the LR and starts smacking it pretty well, every once in a while pulling it off and looking at it. After a minute I notice a small hole, and he slows down, well to make a long story shorter, he broke it in half, and claimed his first life!

Glad to know he's capable of killing these hermits.. (I don't like them, they bother my main display too much, a lot more than the real blue legged hermits do!)

A small one, like mine, probably.

I bet a larger peacock would give the porc more than a bit of trouble.
