I was looking around in my month old tank and happened across a couple of beady little eyes on sticks looking out of a hole in a rock. I thought at first I was just imagining something. I have had a hitchhiking mantis in the past, so I knew what this was.
He seems to be quite a bit smaller than the one I had long ago. Less than an inch long, or maybe an inch in total length.
It is about the color of raw chicken. Most of the ones I have seen before are green or have a peacock type coloring to them. Last night I stuck a bamboo skewer ( blunt end ) near where he was hanging out, sure enough he grabbed ahold of the stick for a short time. I will need to move that rock to my sump and get him out of there. Great info on the site, and the pictures I found here helped me confirm that it is a mantis. Thanks for all the great info.
