I'm looking for a mantis, it's new home is cycled and ready to go! Now, I just need the shrimp!

I got one! Called a friend of mine who has a wholesale fish company and he said he had 2 in one of his sumps! I rushed over and after about 30 minutes of trying to carefully locate them, we found ONE. Seems as if natural selection ran its course! The mantis is about 2.5" long and olive green. I couldn't get a close enough look to see any other markings. The two came out of a someones tank and my friend knew SOMEONE would be crazy enough to want one as a pet... hehe

I'll take pictures tonight and maybe someone will be able to ID him/her for me!

Mantis shrimp make great pets. They are incredibly beautiful and intelligent. An acrylic tank is probably best, if they get too big they can crack the glass. My girlfriend had a couple of Odontodactylus, (not at the same time) and they were just about the coolest pets we have ever had. I think you can get them from special order from just about any store. We get them from time to time at my work ( I work for a wholesaler) so they are out there.

Kara - little green guy... smasher... Florida...

I'm betting Neogonodactylus Wennerae. Here is a thread with pics of a red one...

Great pets, I have two.

Well, he is greenish on some parts. See the pictures I posted on this forum. That should help with the ID. They aren't very good, but the mantis was NOT in the mood to be photogenic. ;)

Yes, the tank is acrylic with about 2" of sand on the bottom and some branchy live rock. I threw some small hermits in there and a pretty snack treat.. err damsel. I added some macroalgae and empty snail shells for ambience.

Wow, what a 'tard, I forgot to paste the URL. :o

Anyway, sweet mantis! Can't tell from the pic, I'm not good at the whole "meral spots" thing yet and that isn't a color I've seen. Can't wait to see what he is.

Oh, and he may never eat that damn-sel. Smashers aren't really fish eaters.

Python, saw you were referring to the mantis tail (telson?) for ID in another post, I did have a not-so-good pic of a top view.. here it is! Maybe it will help?

I got one in Miami

I got one in Miami

I finally got the bastard out of my tank. I don't want him at all. I live in Miami close to Metro Zoo and will be willing to part with him for $20.00. He is 1 1/2 and is red. Let me know.
