Mantle Expansion

Just a question for all the experienced clam keepers.

I have 4 clams, 1 blue maxima, 1 gold maxima, 1 blue ultra maxima, and one blue and green crocea.

The clams are under 2-250W Iwasaki's and 4 VHO's (2 actinic, 2 50/50). All the clams are on the rock work.

My question is this. I notice that the crocea extends its mantle much further than the others. Is this normal or is the extension due to the fact that it is trying to get more light? It is attached and seems to be doing fine, but I just wanted to know if it should be higher up in the water column (currently 13" from llight source).

Tank is fed DT's every other day, selcon and some secret sauce.

I will try and take some pics and post them later today.

Thanks for your help.

croceas always extend their mantles more than maximas. it is more noticeable when they are next to each other.

I had the same concerns when I got mine, and they are doing fine. Still sticking them way out. I have good halides and supplement, so this is normal.

Try www.harboraquatics.com they are in Northern Indiana. The website has know pics, but it does have a ph #. They have a good rep on the forum.

Or if you want the best and don't mind paying for it, Barry at clamsdirect.com.
