Hi this is my 1st post on r/c and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if my clam is going to make it or is it doomed
I have a 4in maxima which has some how split its mantle just above the tube thingy the mantle is still coming out apart from where the rip is.
Is there anything I can do to help it or is it a gonna ?
thanks for taking the time to read

Any idea how the tear happened? How long have you had the clam and how long ago did you first notice the tear? Does the tear start from the outer edge of the mantle and go in towards the clam?

Healthy clams seem to have amazing recuperative powers and can recover from quite a bit.

Ive had the clam about 8 months and Ive had no problems with it.
The tear is actually length ways just above the tube bit(sorry dont know proper name) and is about 1/2 inch long the clam is reacting properly but like I said the bit where the rip is isnt coming out
hth to explain

p.s great job on your site there

Tears of the peripheral mantle that do not extend to the pallatial line will regenerate. I have removed 2 cm segments of mantle from different clams all of which have regenerated completely within 8-12 weeks. It does scar slightly usually due to rearrangement of the iridophores on the regenerated segment.
Central tears are uncommon unless something fell onto the clam ,there is disease or there is predation.
If you eliminate these possibilities it should recover in a healthy system.

thanks for the reply I think a frag fell on it.
Its been 4 days now and the mantle is still out and its still reacting to fish swimming over it so hopefully it will pull through
olike I said THANKS for the replies
