marine conservation organizations?

Does anybody know of good organizations that are at least partly devoted to conserving the worlds reefs? I was thinking of donating a percentage of monies I earn from coral sales to such an organization. I figure its time I put my money where my mouth is. I used to contribute to Greenpeace but became disenchanted with some of their tactics and politics. Please don't refer me to your children's college endowment funds:)

Is there anybody out there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at all? Pink Floyd - The Wall.

No philanthropists here?

Hey Doc,

I joined the URS up into MAC for a short spell (split the fee w/ shotgun shrimp), and was disappointed. All I saw, in the year we participated, was we paid for some jerkoff named John to travel to exotic foreign locales. I know it gets a lot of press in the industry, and maybe they're doing some good, but having sat in on the meetings held online, honestly can't recommend them.
Perhaps try the General reef forum, see if the rest of RC can turn you on to some more places. I want to say the WWF is active in purchasing leases for underwater reefs, but don't hold me to that.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll check into the World Wildlife Fund to see what aquatic efforts they are pursuing. I know they do some good things on a number of environmental fronts.

yeah, i read your post.. hoping to see some replies too. :)
I just didn't know of any.. which group's protest actually damaged part of a reef? I know someone had posted the news article.... heh
Then again, there's the miamiseaprison.org :P
