Marine Epoxy Putty?

What should I get and where can I find it?

I need the reef safe 2 part epoxy putty for gluing SPS frags into my rock. I'm tired of them getting nocked over.

I looked at the home stores and was afraid the stuff was not reef safe.

thanks for your assistance.

I just used a product called Marine Epoxy Putty, made by locktite. I like it much better then the grey stuff in the tube with the red caps. Everything has held up great. Paid $4.75 for 2oz at Lowes

I like DD Deltec epoxy, very pliable and easy to use. Sets well. I super glue frags to rock, then use epoxy for rock to rock (some frags don't seem to do so well for me with epoxy directly on them)

Home Depot... Aquamend Putty with a dab of Superglue Gell works for me.

Me too.

FWIW, IME the AquaStik brand burns coral tissue, so I don't use it.

i use JB Water Weld...cost about 3.95 for a 4" stick...

i have successfully stuck it directly to montipora's of most varieties...as well as a couple different acro's....but i prefer to use gel type "Super glue" directly on the coral and then epoxy the rock to the rock like others have mentioned..

Harveys plumbers 2 part epoxy. Same as aquamend, and aquastick for 4 dollars a stick. Found in the plumbers section at HD.

Is that the same stuff Creetin? I was wondering. I went to Home depot looking for the Aquamend as I have heard others using it. I saw the Harvey's 2 part epoxy in the plumbing section. I kept looking and eventually found Aquamend in the paint department.

If they are the same stuff, that is good to know. I got the aquamend for $2.99 a tube. Worked great.

Excellent info! Thanks for everyones help. I will go to HD and see what I can find.
Thx,

Really 2.99, I might have to switch. Yeah its pretty much the same stuff.
I have used harvey's for 5 years now some times a whole tube at a time and i have not a prob yet. Just some crazy skimming when i use too much, but thats with all 2 part epoxy putty.

I use the Holdfast Epoxy from Instant Ocean. $7.99 for a 4 oz stick. Never had any problems with it whatsoever.

For fresh unmounted corals I wait 3 or 4 days before gluing. Then it’s super glue gel directly on the coral and mounted to a rock or plug. Never had a problem.

My skimmer has been going crazy for the last couple of days, even after a water change. Does anyone else have this problem and how do you solve it?

My skimmer went crazy with the Aquamend. It overflowed the cup which was not a good thing as it was 3/4 full of skimmate. I was afraid that the concentrated skimmate would cause some harm but I did not see any adverse effects. I am sure it was not appreciated by the tank though.....

I had to tune the skimmer to it's lowest, dryest setting to keep it from constantly overflowing. That was with about 1/2 a stick of the aquamend used at one time. It took several hours before the skimmer returned to normal. I could see this taking longer if more had been used.

2 part epoxy's release organics into the water during the curing process. It is not harmful to the tank but makes skimmers go nuts. The organics stop being released after the epoxy has cured fully and setup hard. The skimmer will return to normal after the released organics have been skimmed out of the water column. The skimmer will not return to normal until this happens. The more you use at once, the longer it will take. Just set the skimmer to skim dry and wait it out. It will eventually go back to normal.
