I bought a Maxi Mini about three weeks ago. he was bright neon green and neon yellow in the store. the had him under Reef Brite LED strip which had a mix of actinic and 10,000k. As you all know this is not that powerful of lighting. Anyway it looked amazing in there tank, which confused me, so I thought it would be even brighter or the same under mine.
I have the Maxi Mini in a 5 gallon pico (shallow - depth is only 8 inches). I have the Ecoxotic EcoPico LED arm. I have 5 Strips on it, each strip is 3w. 3 of the strips are 10,000k and two of them are actinic 420. The only other thing in the tank is three sexy shrimp, two blue legged hermits (tiny), two Astrea (tiny), and a Juvenile Tailspot Blenny (1"). For coral I have four Ricordias, and three separate (small >5) colonies of Zoa's.The parameters are perfect, stable and I monitor the tank daily and do water changes weekly. The tank has been up for 10 months.
When I got the Anemone home and acclimated properly, I noticed that the vivid neon Yellow and Green had been replaced with a duller (but still neon Green and a dull purple. The Green being on the outside and the Purple being in circling the center. I waited weeks for his color to change back, but it never did. The Anemone is healthy in every other regard. he eats regularly. he found a good spot with a lot of light and has not moved since. He spreads out completely and looks generally good. His color is not alarming and if you had not seen him before the color change you would assume nothing is amiss.
Does any one else have an experience like this with Carpet Anemones? I could not find much information about the colors changing. I do not think it is due to his health. I am not sure it has to do with my lighting as I fairly sure my lighting is more intense that the stores lighting, granted my lighting is not great. The par level at the depth of 7 inches is more than adequate. Any ideas guys?
