maxi-stream - WOW

I did the maxi-stream mod to a maxi-jet 1200 - WOW. This thing puts out way more flow than my Seio 1100. A nice wide stream but more chaotic than the Seio. When I turned it on it had so much force it broke the diy bracket I had made. I did the 2 Hammer/Nitro props mod detailed in the 'Hitchhikers guide to the maxi-stream mod' thread. This is also better than my Seio because it can be used on a wavemaker like the Chauvet dj timer.

For those of use that don't want to spend the $$ on Tunze's or even Seios, this is a very cool mod. Cost less than $10 in parts, took a total of less than an hour spread over a couple of days. Way cool.

I've thought about this mod a few times..Maybe we can strong-arm you into a future demo on this DIY project. I know alot of guys would be interested...

Do you have a picture of it? I browsed through that thread and still don't understand the concept behind it...

I got my Chuavet SF4005 dj light timer is from music123.com, you can also get them on ebay. Less than $30 for a nice heavy duty wavemaker.

The principle behind this is removing the 'impeller' and replacing it with one or more 'propellers'.

I will be posting photos at some point, and can give a quick demo at a future meeting.

Greg, please do a demo. I really need to see to believe. I forgot to ask you about that at the meeting.

Greg-
Have you tried them on the wavemaker? Did you do "prop stop" to keep it from spinning backwards and making the blender? We have one of the "kit" set-ups running and it definately moves ALOT of water! Not to mention MUCH easier to hide than a Tunze!!!! Have you looked around for any 3 prop propellers?

Yes, I have a prop stop, it works well on my wavemaker. The props I have a 3-bladed, and I used two of them together. These came from towerhobbies.com, but I heard they were sold out of them shortly after I got mine - this mod is very popular.

Greg how is the prop holding up under the stress of the Chauvet? I got the Chauvet already but have read recently that the prop stop hacks away at the propeller pretty bad.

Just curious.

is it me or is aquarium systems falling asleep on this one????

i find it completely absurd that some pencil pusher from AS hasnt put two and two together (its 4 right?)

with a little r and d they could make $$$ hand over fist. this "mod" has so many positives over the competition ....

1. prelim rnd already done by hobbyists to prove it works
2. already a massive market waiting to gobble these up
3. far smaller than competition
4. runs as efficient as pumps 10x the price
5. easily adapted to run on a wavemaker
6. already a proven high quality pump with a great user base
7. inexpensible and easily attainable for the masses
8. a mod kit would cost pennies to make within a large facility that already makes the pump

there is no doubt that those running aquarium systems must be "deededeeeeeeeeeee"

I just took it apart and there is a nick on each blade where it hits the stopper. Not bad, but next time I would build it slightly differently. I had used a pvc bushing instead of pipe, so it is just barely long enough - the piece of carbon fiber rod I used as a stopper is very short. If the whole assembly was longer, I could make the stopper a little bigger and put the rubber piece that was on the end of the maxijet impeller on that, I bet that would prevent the nick on the prop blade.

Maxijet Stream Swirls

Check out my website for video of my newly-configured tank. Put MJ1200 Streams on Sea-Swirls, had to re-scape to fit the one on the SPS side and cut back the flow from the return a bit.

Swirls on 24/7. MJ Streams on a Chauvet Timer, timer mode, switching every 12min or so. MJs off from midnight to 7am.

I'm loving it. Corals are loving it.

Camera picked up the actinic blue more than the eye ... the tank looks much more white than this. But you get the idea. Closeups of the Swirl-to-MJ Stream mounting also there.

Enjoy!

I tried to see it but........

I uploaded and tested everything and then posted here. Try tomorrow. It's pretty cool if I do say so myself! :)

It's free hosting. But a 500gig bandwidth limit a month not bad!
