Maxima and Lawn Mower Blennies?

Before I go buying a lawn mower blenny, will it eat my clams? I really like the blenny but, I will NOT have it eating my Maxima clams!!!!!!! Anybody have any thoughts or concerns?

don`t do it, all my clams were closed up 1 day after getting one , so i watched closely and saw him nailing all of them one after another, got him out and gave him away

I kept a lawnmower (6") in with a bunch of clams with no problems. Now my Clown tang was a different story.

That's what I've heard. THey are better than bi-color blennies at least. Some of those things are just hell for clams.

I have a 5" LMB and several clams of all sizes, I have never see this fish going after any of the clams, I once spotted him laying on top of one, but the clam was completely open as if it didn't even care.

I have a Lawnmower Blenny with a baby Maxima for 2 weeks now and no issues as of yet.,

I also have a Coral Beauty.


So far so good.

me too: one LMB and two 4-5 inch clams. He sat on one clam once, but never attacked it. My two girls think the LMB is a great fish so he is worth having. He is also always eating so I figure that is good too.

LMB do not attack or eat clams -- they may pester them by sitting on them/near them. They may pick at the shells to clean them but they don't bother the mantle...

this is the first time I've ever heard of a LMB attacking anything!

My LMB sometimes dukes it out with my jawfish. I have on a couple of occasions see him ducking into the house my jawfish made and forcing the jawfish out if necessary. I was surprised by it as the LMB seems such a gental creature for the most part. I guess there was some special event happening at the time (though I've no clue what it was), as he hasn't done it for a while now.

Mine would perch on one of my several clams...but I never observed him feeding on the mantel in any way shape or form...although its possible that they could be monching algae off the shell...and its possible that one could perch on a clam and get cought when it closes up...

I had one and it never touched any corals or clams in my tank. But watch out for bi-color.

I have a 5-6" Lawnmower blenny for 4 years now and I have 3 clams in my SPS tank and no problems..

dont LMB, but my bicolor got sent to a different tank for nailing my clam.

I've had a bicolour blenny in with my Maxima and Squamosa for about a month now and he hasn't shown the slightest inclination to pester the clams. Same with the either of the tangs ( a Yellow and a Purple) and Flame Angel who I was most worried about.

The Yellow will sometimes pick at the shell, in fact the Maxima had a fair bit of macro algae growing on his shell when I first put him in the tank and the tangs cleaned that off in no time....
