maxima clam- help!

I have had this maxima clam for 7-8 months now. It has always been extended and attatched to a rock in the same spot, well I moved some corals around but did not touch the clam. Now it's been 2 days and he has not extended his mantle nearly like he should. I created a clam lagoon in the center of my tank for him and my squasmosa. He still isn't extending. How long should I wait to see extension? How many times should I move him to make him happy?THANKS!!!!

do any of the corals have the tentacles (sp?) that could be stinging the clam. Are any of them shading the clam? How are your readings? I wouldn't move the clam any more than absolutely necessary (sorry my spelling is so bad today). Has the water flow changed around the clam?

I am almost sure that the clam is dying! I don't get it he was fully extended for 7-8 months. All the corals I moved were sps corals so none could have stung him. I placed him on the sand bed in the center of my tank with my squasmosa. I came home and he has receded and doesn't look good AT ALL! I don't understand how within 2 days hhe could get this bad. My Ca was a little low 400 but I check that every 3 days so that can't be it. Maybe I am paranoid but he doesn't look good. Any reasons how a clam can die so quick??:(

What makes you think the clam is dying? A pic would be helpful. Has the clam detach itself from a rock if that's what it was on before? Is the clam showing signs of "gapping"?

Have you tried feeding him a little DT's? Maybe when you moved things around he got a bit stressed and is taking some time to re-acclimate himself. If all the parameters in your tank are good and nothing is bothering him the best thing you could do for him is leave him alone and watch him. Also have you added anything (fish, coral, another clam, or anything) to the tank recently?

Pic would be great but my wife is out and she has the dig camera. I guess I am thinking he is dying because I have never seen him like this. I fed im some dt's and he did close on my baster. If I can get a pic up when I get my camera home I will. Meanwhile I'll monitor him and do what I can(dt's ad leave hime alone in is new space).

Oh I forgot he doesn't show signs of gapping he is just very "receded". Has been now for 2 days but like I said still reacts and closes.

What do you mean closed on your baster? Never squirt DT's directly into the clam that can clog their little gills. I use a 2 liter bottle that I cut the bottom off of and add just a little DT's with the turkey baster into the top of it. (Just enough to tint the water green). And let the clam filter it out of the water.

No, if I don' give them a dt "bath" I use the baster and squirt around them. Just so I know the dt's are getting into their water column. I used the baster just to see if the clam would still recognize something was trying to get at him. He did! This morning he looks the same. I'll get picks up later after the lights come on.
Thanks for the help so far!
Chris
