May 2007 TOTM Revisited

It has to be more then just keeping stable Calcium, PH, Alkalinity and Magnesium and low phosphates and good lighting.

That pretty much covers the important stuff! Not sure what else you can do......

Dave.........:eek2: :eek1: :eek2: Simply amazing! Making me want radiums.

I have generally just let the corals grow these days.....only when my prized possessions touch would I move them. Pegging genreally keeps them from touching, but as you can tell, some growth is pretty dense so I just let them grow - and let nature do it's thing.

Do you find yourself trimming to prevent them from touching, letting nature takes its course or some of both???

Unreal, just unreal.

Soon as I get a sponsor I plan on starting the 540!

WICKED nice! You'll be growing out of the top soon I presume - time for 540g?

I use all 20K radium now. I really changed just to try them and found I liked the appearance of them and their affect on the corals. I used them for a year, wow what a change when you replace them, a completely different color.

So what kind of lighting do you use radium or xm 20k. I looked at the may 2007 totm and saw that used xm 20k, and i now i just saw a post that you use Radium. Basically what bulb do you use when you took those pictures recently, because those are awesome pictures.

My replacement Radium showed up today - that one XM is out and will serve as a back-up. Radiums across the board again (lost one due to a fish splash).

Just macro and a 3 knife fish right now. Plan on adding a pipe fish when I see one available.

your system is one of the nicest i have seen. maybe one of the top tanks in canada thats for sure. keep up the good work. do you have anything living in that fuge?

Still looking great Dave.

Count down is on till I get to set up the 200g tank I bought from you. In July I will be moving. Would love to stop in to your place once before then to admire your tank and gather some advice.

Awsome looking tank Dave!

What are you using for your magnesium supplement? Are you using a liquid additive?

Nice - hope you bought a house that can nicely accomodate that tank, and that you didn't move to far away from all the Toronto LFS's.

Thanks Mike. Well I generally use Kent liquid Mg, however I do use the Seachem granular from time to time. Both have been effective at raising levels. I also use zeomag in my calcium reactor but this can not keep up with demands so I supplement.

Very pro, am a fan of your pictures that you have been showing lately, love the setup and am jelous of the space.

BTW, raised my digi and has been showing favorable results.

Hello 250G

Amazing with your tank, may I know which salt are you using and your tank water parameters (KH Ca Mg),Thank you :-D

Absolutely amazing! That's got to be the nicest tank form Canada I've seen!!! I only wish we got corals that nice here in Winnipeg! :)

Wow and fantastic. That cinder block in the first picture is the best I have ever seen. It should look really nice when it finishes coloring up and grows out some. I bet you will have to frag it though when it gets too big for the fish room though.

Sorry this is the only thing that has not been said for your amazing system. I always enjoy your posts and pictures of your system.

I do, but not in the tank.

Amazing tank,

Do you dose Vodka at all?

Well the frag tank is 48x30x8". I have an 8 bulb 54W unit over it, maybe 20" above the tank. I generally run only 4 bulbs, as otherwise some of my other frags (zoas, LPS) get too much light.

Can you give me the specs on your frag tank, how high are the lights? Are they just t5's are those halides?

Thanks! I use tropic Marin Pro, or regular when Pro is not available. That being said, I have only used about2 buckets in the last year (including the frag tank) - stuff is expensive! Try to maintain 400+ calcium, 9DKH and 1400+ Mg.

Thanks for the compliment. 2007 was the last time the tank was lookin' this good. Being in Toronto, we are really spoiler when it comes to corals.

Thanks. Yes, that seems oddly out of place..........a timer went and I can not plug in the ballast without it. Makes me check in the tank every day though which is a good thing.

Dave,

One of the nicest sps tanks on this site period. Next I would work on getting that fish room tightened up a little, it looks just a little on the sloppy side if you ask me. But all those thoughts disappear when I saw your FTS!

Awesome tank, This tank has been my idol tank for 2 years now.

Ohh and its got better ..Inspirational to say the least!

HI Dave,
Anything new since the last time I was there.
Did you get any nice sps from ORG or RR?

Thanks for the post. If you have any questions about any thing I am doing, well just post them here.

Hey Paul. Think I picked up one, but honestly the tank is full so it has to be something pretty unique these days. Looking forward to seeing your new tank soon.
