For those reefers who supplement their metal halide lights with 10-13 hours per day of actinic lighting, how many hours per day do you run your metal halide lights?

12 on 12 off for me. I cut it back in the summer b/c of my heat issue, but if it weren't for the heat I'd keep 'em on 12 year round.

Actinics (VHO) on 14hrs/day

WOW thats a long time.

Any reason why you run it that long?

I do 12hrs actinics and 8hrs MH.

6.5hrs MH and 13hrs actinic VHOs. i got better and better coloration of coral each time i cut back on my MH time. i started at 9 a day, then 8, then 7, now 6.5. in summer it's 6.

I run mine for 13.5 hours per day. I get insane coral growth.
Fish don't seem to care.

I was reading a nice long post the other day about short halide photoperiods. Seems like a good way to go. I just switched to halides from t5's, and I am running halides for 5 hours, actinics for 1 hour before and 1 hour after.
