just wanted to let everybody know that i am running 4 vhos and 2 metal halides on a stock canopy

mine metal halides are only 175 watts a piece but they get the job done in my opinion.

i only have around 5-6 inches from the water to the bulbs. ( its prob not the best but it does ok for me

my temp stays around 79-80 degrees without fans.

i do have fans in the canopy but i have unplugged them.

i also found that the vhos on the outside of them works best.

i have tried them at the front(metal halides) and the only problems that i have are the plastic around the rim of the aquarium gets hot.

now in the middle i have had no problem at all with the plastic getting hot.
i did make a mistake on the blue leds pictured in the bottom of the canopy .
i put them next to the halides. well they melted them thats why it looks a little funny

here are the pics .
just wanted to let everyone know that it can be done.

however i think the 175 watt are the max for heat purposes

i am also only pushing 40 watt bulbs on the vhos which makes them 80 watts a peice. which is plenty for actinics ( cheaper to buy and operate)

so im getting around 670 watts total . well that is if you count actincs.

the only thing i would like to do is probly invest in some spider reflectors one day. other than that i think for the most part i can keep alot of corals on this lighting.

thanks for the input elephen. how high were they and was it a stock canopy .... if so when i upgrade looking to do that as well if possible
