MH effects on acrylic?

Just wanted to see what people recommend on distance of MH lights from the top of acrylic? As of know I have a canopy that is 14.5" and my lights are about 13" from the top of my acrylic tank. I would like to drop them down a bit but do't want to melt it or mess up the bond.

Hi, I have a 180 acrylic tank and have 3 MH lights. The 250W MH HQI running SE are about 4" the acrylic and about 6" above the h2o, they run about 8 hours. The third MH is a 400W HQI running SE running about 3 hours same height. I have had no issues with melting or yellowing acrylic, and I have been running every day for about 30 months now. Hope it helps. Ofcourse, I am not sure about the composition of the acrylic or if it matters :?
