micro regurgitation

I target fed my micros bits of squid last night. they ate and looked to be really excited abou tit. This morning, many of the polyps appear to be regurgitating the squid. It looks to be partially digested and only to be about half of what they were fed. Did I feed them too much? Do they just not like squid?

My dendros love squid, I just thought it would be easier to feed everything the same thing ... guess I was wrong.

I guess I will have to get an eyedropper then. I have the freezedried stuff. Do you just mix with a little saltwater and eyedropper it into the heads?

Adam - Not trying to hijack your thread but I had a question for Doc, and thought you might like to know too.

Chris - When you feed do you think that it matters which polyps get fed. Does the polyp that gets the food share the nutrients with the entire colony? I would think so. But I can't help but feed the outer polyps thinking if they're well fed there will be a better chance that babies will grow. Just thinking........

I have polyps on the underside of my only micro frag, so common sense would say that they share the nutrients taken in by the other heads. You can fit more food into the colony by feeding the heads on the fringes, so if they're well fed also then you're effectively putting more food into the coral.

Wellll I must be honest and say I am unsure... Both ideas are credible... I actually try to alternate the portion of the colony that I am pushing food to But, I do know from growing and reserching Illegal photophyllic plants many years (and long ago in a past life) that there is a hormone in the tips of most growing things (human bones even) that cause that area to be growth specific so the more nutrients added to this area the faster the colony will grow... it will also be a more potent micro... LOL

POINT to be taken.... FEED the growing edge is my opinion

Forgive me as I digress

I have been mixing cyclops with Arcti-pods & Dt's oyster eggs lately. The arcti-pods are too big for micros but I have mostly Acans around them. That way the cloud of 3 different foods hits even the smallest baby polyps hiding underneath.

Cool info Doc!

as soon as they hit the water my montipora just pop-out their polyps! Clams love them too. I have always wondered if flying-fish or urchin eggs have the same nutritional value? They are so cheap at the Asian markets!
