Mini-Din 8 pin connectors can be bought from Digikey:

Part # 275-1033-ND

I used wire from an old mouse cable.

It was an old PS2 mouse that died. You can use just about any wire. I don't think it needs to be shielded or anything special. A chunk of Cat5 network cable would be perfect.

The black bar in the middle for most mouses I have seen doesn't match the pattern of the Mini Din 8. Did you remove the black bar.

With a CAT5 cable would you just recommend plugging each colored wire in manually? If yes, how would you hold the wires in place?

You are right, you can't use the PS2 mouse connectors. I cut the ends off the mouse cord and soldered the wires into the mini-din connector that I got from Digikey. You will need a soldering iron to do this. Likewise ask a friend with soldering skills if you don't know how.

Aquaduck .. thanks for all your help. Also on the ACIII do you attach the Mini Din 8 to the serial or I/O port on the controller.

You must use the I/O connector on the ACIII the serial is for connecting to a computer. Pin connections can be found near the back of the ACIII manual.
