Miracle Mud

Is anyone out there using Miracle Mud as their filtration sysem. It sounds very interesting to me and am considering setting up a test system to see how it does. I am sure someone has talked about his before but I can't find a thread on it. Any info would be great. Pics of set up would be nice also.

Sure, it came with my Ecosystems refugium. Does it work? Well, "it" being the entire system...sure. Does the very expensive mud make it work any better than any other refugium substrate? I have no clue. When I move to my 240, my stand won't fit the Ecosystems sump that I need, so I'm having one custom made. I don't yet know if I will use their mud or not...I am thinking I will likely go with one of the cheaper mud substrates, but we'll see.

i just started a miracle mud fuge. When i asked for advice on what substrate to used i mostly got alot of negative feedback on the mud. mostly saying it makes no difference what you use and it is too expensive, but none of the naysayers had any experience with miracle mud!

Are you going to run a skimmer on the refugium? Is there another brand of so called mud other than Ecosystems?

yeah, i actually used caribsea's mineral mud

Any kind of mineral mud is fine. The idea is that it feeds the macroalgae with what is not in the tank--namely, iron in a form the plant can tap into. In this sense, it is superior to a sand only substrate.

Thanks for the input... I think i will set up a small test tank for a while and see what i can do with it.
