Moorish Idol

While at my LFS last week I noticed they had a Moorish Idol that was eating flake food. Do you think I should go for it or is this still risky? I have a 210 and regularly soak food in Selcon, Zoe, etc.

Hey Thor,
No, but where is aquaria studio? I see you are located near me. Is this a good place for fish? By the way, I went today to the LFS that had the Moorish Idols and they were all gone. Didn't ask if they were bought or if they died. What do you think they would tell me anyway.

Nevermind, I looked on the web and I know what store Aquaria Studio is. It's owned by the same guy that owns Ocean Blue. His prices are pretty high.

Even when eating they usually die within a year.

I have had many of them and most of them ate flakes and most other foods offered. Feeding, is not the problem even though many think it is.

I think the biggest problem is that they live in mated pairs and in all the dives I did with them, the male finds the food and the female w3ho is following far behind eventually catches up to eat. Then the male moves on to find more food. In doing this they take long 100 yard or more circles around the reef. They may need this interaction or maybe the exercize to stay healthy.
Maybe they need to breed.

hey vparsons, make sure and check out the O-r-c-a forum located on here. Its the orlando area reef club forum. It has alot of people in it from the area. take care.

No they sometimes live past a year. My last one was about 5 and died in an accident with most of my other fish.

i wasn't sucessful with mine. but afterwards i did hear about the mated pair thing having alot more positive results. (now its twice the investment though)
