well it's almost time to start hunting these sometimes hard to find treat and i thought that people might want to post when and in what part of the state you are finding them.

hey don't get me wrong,i ain't asking people for a map to there favorite spots.i sure would'nt but it would be cool to see when people start finding them and in what part of the state.

Wolfman, I'm just playing hardball LOL. I have a few spots in the IC/c'ville area that are perenial(sp?) producers, and a few spots in central IA in the Marshalltown area.

Got my knife all sharp and ready to cut'em!

How come you cant dig them up, with a bunch of their soil and get them to grow in ur basement or something?

if i could get them to grow in my basement i would be a rich man(well maybe not,i would eat em lol)i have some spots up in postville, elkader, mainly up in the north east that have been good the last couple of years.i like to look for them up there because it is hilly and my fat *** has to earn them!!!

LOL i get kinda obsessed, so i have to start early in the morning, and end up going all day... "I just need one more, OK well one more, now Im on a roll, one more..." haha

Oh I don't always go up just to find'em but when im up at a buddies trout fishin house up near decorah(in quandall) ive also had great success this time of year.

so do i,last year i was fishing down at red rock in early may and we didn't find to many because we were out in water most of the day, then one of the days my buddy had to take a dump so we pulled up to this small island and when he was done he started back to the boat and he started yelling(kind of freeked me out)he found some morels.i then got out of the boat and in about 15 min,we found about 5 pounds.good thing too because we didn't get to many fish so we ate shrooms until we were sick. we island jumped off and on the next few days with mixed results

5lbs in 15min.... I HATE YOU! HAHAHAHAHA red rock huh, im there boating a few times a year, ill have to snoop around ;)

There is nothing better than a plate of Fresh Trout, and Fresh Morels. I'm much more proficient at finding trout than I am at finding mushrooms thankfully.

As am I, nothign more peaceful and fun than standing in a stream fly fishing... sigh, i need to spend some more time doing that soon

For you mushroom experts, Do usually hunt in wooded areas or do you find them in open grassy areas too?

I would hope with these nice warm days that they will be popping up soon!

Which stream? I fish Syn Magill and Bloody run a couple of times a year usually. I've been out a handfull of times this spring, and all the streams I've visited have been in really good shape. I haven't been as far north as Marquette though.

We will stay at Bloody Run County park, and fish there, but will make the trip over to Sny as well.
