Most efficient way to heat a 400g system?

I keep the air at 72 in my sump room and a few jager heaters to keep the water temp 76+ on my system (400+ gallons)

I think right around 1000 gallons, you might want to consider getting creative. There are some large kilowatt-sized electric heaters, but I would not want all that wattage sitting in the water. Perhaps that's just paranoia talking. Around 1000 gallons I would consider an on demand water heater and run a closed loop coil into a sump.

i run a 300w heater on my 2 220 prop tanks with dual 400w mh and its fine my house stays 72 and i run a house fan close to my tanks since my lights hang about 12 " off the water

I was looking at hydronic to heat a shed last night.
If only I owned a shed =)

i should say solar.

'process -technology' make some beefy heaters.
1000, 1800, 2500, 3500 watts.

probably not what your wanting, but might interest some.

One concern I would have about using a really big electric heater (in the 2000W-4000W range) is that it is a major electrical draw when it kicks on. I would hate for it to trip the fuse and result in an unheated tank. Again, that's just paranoia talking, I'm sure every electrical system out there is different and some can handle more than others.

I cant believe I haven't chimed in here yet. I had some trouble figuring out how to heat my 800+ system. I went through 2 off brands and then finally got 2 jbj true temp 1000w heaters. I love them and they haven't gone bad yet...

I was leaning towards the JBJ's but at almost $200 each that's going to hurt!

Yes but so would a tank full of SPS frags at 70...I used a 1000w heater on a controller with the heater on full blast for my 500+g system when it was up. I used the controller from the ACjr and a single heater controller as back up between them.

Yeah I hear you...never thought I would spend that kind of money on a heater though.
